They have kept the business name from the previous owners but have added a personal touch with a crisp, modern make-over of the interior.
Wax Gallery offers body waxing, tinting, eyelash extensions, threading and tanning.
Ms Mahon has worked in the beauty industry for about seven years including at high-end Bendigo salons Honeyeater and Jools for Jim.
There were no plans to buy her own business but things changed when she saw a gap in the market.
"Everyone just wants to come in, ring a couple of days before, if not that day, get in, and have everything done at an affordable price," Ms Mahon said.
"The concept is efficiency, affordability, but with great service."
She plans to start an express make-up service, where clients turn up to get their eyes and lips done before a night out.
Ms Mahon said she was thrilled with the support from customers old and new, with bookings already 'chaotic'.
"It's fantastic, it's absolutely booming.
"We've got new girls that have started here that have brought clientele and people have just already really embraced us."
With three children aged seven, five and five months, Ms Mahon is used to being busy, but owning a business is new territory.
"It's such a big learning curve. It's hectic but we'll get there," she said.
Ms Mahon said she could not take on the challenge if it weren't for her husband, friends and family.
"Without that there would be no business happening, so thank God for those three things."
The challenge appears worth it because the work is rewarding.
"It's about making people feel good about themselves ....and you can be part of that," she said.
In the future Ms Mahon hopes to employ a hairdresser, not for hair cuts but for 'up-dos', to complement the express make-up service.
