The latest initiative will be a history-making two-day, day-night game at the Queen Elizabeth Oval from 3.30pm on Saturday between Kangaroo Flat and White Hills.
The BDCA is a competition with more than 100 years of history, but never before has a game been played with a pink cricket ball.
The influence of the pink Kookaburra ball will be one of the key points of intrigue when the Roos and Demons lock horns in their day-night match over the next two Saturdays.
It seems the pink ball won’t make life any easier for either the bowlers or the batsmen, with feedback from Sheffield Shield players who used it last season indicating it didn’t swing or seam and went soft quickly, making it tougher to score runs.
Whatever the pink ball does on Saturday, it’s fantastic to see the BDCA board continue to trial new initiatives to generate interest around the competition.
It’s even better most of the initiatives, such as the pink ball game and last weekend’s Premier Cricket Bush Bash and Twenty20 double-header, involve the QEO.
Too often Bendigo’s premier sporting ground lays dormant during summer.
It’s great to have the sound of leather on willow back on the QEO, as well as cricket on the back page.
