We have noticed this term "only" being used by every government, company, and local authority.
My electricity has "only" gone up $2 a week, gas "only" $1.20, water and sewerage "only" $2.80, council rates "only" $1.35, car registration "only" $1.80.
The "onlies" soften us to pay "only" a bit weekly, so it is not a big deal. Is it?
But the "onlies" are far above any CPI increases. When put together for a week and then multiplied by 52 they are more than pension increases or unemployment benefits for 52 weeks.
It is no wonder statistics show that poverty is increasing.
We are all moving to a much lower standard of income and the "only" advocates always have a poor justification for raising revenue, mostly because of poor planning for the long-term future.
Most governments' long-term planning consists of talkfests and before anything logical, practical or common sense takes place it is time for another election and out roll the sweeteners.
