According to long-time Bendigo policeman Peter Dyer, this year's event was the best behaved he's ever seen.
That's a big statement coming from a man who has been on duty for the cup 18 years in a row.
Acting Sergeant Dyer said yesterday was a world away from the BYO days of the 1990s when race-goers had unfettered access to alcohol which then led to fights.
Yesterday police breath-tested 2300 people and caught only one person who was drug-driving.
An impressive statistic.
Apart from being a stand-out year for behaviour, the Bendigo Jockey Club's chief executive and president agreed it was the most stylish yet.
There were certainly some statuesque women and men gracing the catwalk.
Recognising the day as central Victoria's primary social event the Bendigo Advertiser had all hands on deck to capture the action.
For me this meant staying in front of my computer, but I lived vicariously through everyone thanks to our invincible photographers who snapped their way through the day with extraordinary stamina.
