The 66 year-old from Bendigo donated his time to sell Remembrance day poppies for the RSL.
He says business was slow early in the day.
“I’m a bit surprised with that given the size of the crowd here,” he said.
"I’m waiting for the punters to come back with their winnings.”
A member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia, Mr Bowen says Remembrance Day is special for him.
He hopes Bendigo people get right behind the poppies appeal in their usual generous manner.
"The number of days I volunteer varies - certainly today and maybe three to four days more over the next two weeks.
"It's a good cause."
Mr Bowen is also a volunteer with the Sing Australia Choir, performing at several nursing home across the region.
He says he finds volunteering personally rewarding.
“It’’s marvellous what retirement does for you,” he said.
The proceeds of the sale of millions of red cloth poppies in the lead-up to November 11 will raise funds for RSL welfare work.
