St Paul’s: This Sunday is All Saints day and in the gospel we hear Jesus teaching the crowd that the attributes of mercy, righteousness and peacemaking are things to strive for.

So instead of scratching your head to find the perfect gift, take an envelope off the tree and fulfil our Lord’s second great commandment: Love your neighbour as you love yourself. You will serve your neighbours in lands near and far, offering life, safety, education and security – all that we take for granted. So grab some chickens, adult literacy, find some safer birthing, or even the good ol’ goat, and encourage friends and family to live simply so that others can simply live.

Sometimes discovering the truth can be a painful experience. It certainly was for the Pharisees when Jesus told them that they were enslaved to sin and their father was the Devil!
This is recorded in John 8:31-59. Unlike how it might appear, Jesus was simply telling them the truth and this truth applies to all people before they are saved and redeemed by Jesus. Unsurprisingly, the Pharisees found this truth hard to swallow and had a heated exchange with Jesus.
The sad part is that the Pharisees were not able to listen to Jesus when He shared with them the good news – that He was able to set them free from their enslavement and make them heirs in the kingdom of God. How common it is for those outside the Christian faith to be offended when they are told the truth about their human condition and not hear the good news the church also proclaims. To hear one message and not the other is a great tragedy. The truth can hurt, but also has the power to heal and set free.
All welcome to join us for worship this Sunday at 9am at 94 Spring Gully Road. During Sunday’s service a small memorial rite will be held to remember loved ones who have died in recent years.
Oasis Christian Church
Pastor John’s message last Sunday spoke about “the Cross at work in the believer”.
Psalm 34:19 states: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
God does not cause difficulties or hardships, but He allows believers to go through them to learn about His grace, avoiding arrogance and pride.
Jesus through the Cross and His shed blood broke down the middle wall of separation between mankind and God. He took all sin upon himself at His crucifixion, presenting Himself and the church without spot or wrinkle.
Through Christ’s crucifixion, burial and resurrection, believers have been set free from a fallen nature of sin and death.
They have been made alive and victorious in the Spirit of God and now have His power at work in them to resist wrong ways of living and become transformed in their thinking.
By grace believers are free to worship God the Father and once more to have a close and loving relationship with Him.
Sunday services are at 10am at the Long Gully Community Centre, 27 Havilah Road, Bendigo.

St John’s: At St John’s last Sunday, the Reverend Philip Burns concluded his sermon series on 1 Samuel by preaching on chapter 31.
When the Philistines attacked Israel and were victorious, both King Saul and his sons’ lives came to an end – the sons in the battle and Saul by his own hand.
Saul’s tragic life ended in a sad and lonely death, having refused to turn away from his mad pursuit of David and having failed to turn away from his sin. Saul’s death came about according to the Lord’s own warning to him, but even this did not deter him from this course of action.
Saul’s death stands in stark contrast to the death of Jesus, the true King, whose death was not senseless and sad, but secured the salvation of the people of God and brings real and eternal hope.
Home Groups continue on Wednesdays at 1.30pm and Thursdays at 7.30pm. Playgroup meets on Fridays at 10am. There will be a service at Joan Pinder tomorrow at 2pm.
On Sunday the Reverend Burns will begin a new series on 1 Peter and the congregation will participate in Solidarity Sunday with the persecuted church. Morning tea will follow in the hall. For more information, contact 5443 6189 or visit http://bendigopc.org.au
Eaglehawk: Last week guest preacher Rory Wainwright spoke of “One body in Christ”, Ephesians 4 V11-16.
As we get older our bodies break down but we can ensure we are built up spiritually with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Our spiritual life is a gift of God through Jesus’s death on the cross. God is calling us to Himself. He wants to share His love with us.
We, the church, are the body of whom Christ is the head. We have different parts, much like the human body. We have different gifts to serve God such as welcoming the newcomer, organising the cups of tea, or one who just does things that need doing, etc., none seeking a reward as it is all done in Jesus’s name.
Being part of the body of Christ we are redeemed, adopted and blessed. We belong to the family of God.
Sunday’s 10am worship service will be conducted by guest preacher Stephen Blythe. On Wednesday, November 5, the 9am weekly prayer meeting will be followed by Bible study at 10.30am.
As pastor Steven is still on leave, all inquiries to Alan on 5446 8086.
