IN reference to the front-page article in yesterday’s Bendigo Advertiser concerning the Educational Maintenance Allowance ("Benefit cut"), I want to point out that thanks to the Napthine government, schools in Bendigo will share in an additional $258 million for Victorian government schools in 2015.

A massive $5.5 billion will be provided directly to government schools – a funding record.
As part of a total of $108.5 million to support the most disadvantaged schools, the Napthine government will provide $42.5 million to replace the Education Maintenance Allowance and support students and families by easing the cost of education.
By directing this funding to the most disadvantaged school communities, principals and school councils will be able to plan their budgets for 2015 locally, and tailor extra support for students and families in a fair and equitable way.
In 2015, the Napthine government will also provide a further $8 million to replace the Education Maintenance Allowance for Catholic and independent schools.
Government schools will also receive $62 million to fund enrolment growth, and the largest increase in non-wage indexation in 15 years.
Daniel Andrews’ and Labor’s shameless lies about education funding have caused real anxiety within the community, and schools in Bendigo deserve an apology.
We are delivering a record $9.2 billion for school education in 2014-15, $1 billion more than Labor’s last budget in 2010-11.
The Napthine government is building a better education system, with record funding, more support and more flexibility to support Victorian students to achieve at school.
