The community is honouring the memories of Greg Holmes, his mother Mary Lockhart and her husband Peter Lockhart.
But is it also trying to stay focused on the positives of living in the town which has found itself in the spotlight this week.
Residents hope people will support a number of upcoming community events – including the opening of a redeveloped community hall and a farmers’ market.
Dozens of families attended Wedderburn College's fete on Friday night, an event months in the planning, with a strong sense of optimism about the future.
Teacher and organiser Julie Martin said it was important to "try and be positive" about the town.
"The school tries to have an open partnership with the local community, particularly in light of recent events," she said.
"This event acts as a celebration for our school - it's the last chance for our Year 12s to have a bit of a kick around."
The school of 243 students could see a number of improvements after receiving a $1 million state government grant earlier this year.
Next weekend the town will also celebrate the opening of the redeveloped Wedderburn Community House.
The National Hands Network will also hold a stall at the Wedderburn Farmers’ Market next Sunday, selling produce of local children who have spent one afternoon a week growing and creating their products.
The network’s founder Miranda Pereira said a "Good Eggs" program in Wedderburn gave 17 children the chance to gain manufacturing and retail experience.
"Children in these communities don't really have that option of getting a few days' experience at a supermarket or anywhere," she said.
"For one day each week, they come in and make their own items to sell. They learn all about what a float means, how wholesale works and even writing official minutes."
The Wedderburn Farmers’ Market, held a number of times throughout the year, runs from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, October 26.
