The visit is timely with White Ribbon Day, Australia’s campaign to stop violence against women, on November 25.
The elephant is travelling around Victoria to help raise awareness about violence against women, and to encourage people to take action to prevent it.
It will be at Castlemaine's Phee Broadway Theatre Foyer until November 2 when it will make a brief appearance at the Castlemaine Farmers' Market. It will then continue to Bendigo.
The elephant was created as part of a community art project in Wodonga by a group of women who have survived living with family violence.
The artwork on the elephant shows two sides to family violence, the downside of abuse and the devastation it causes to peoples’ lives and the joy of recovery, building trust and respectful relationships.
Council is hosting the elephant for Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre which runs a family violence legal program in the Mount Alexander Shire.
The Phee Broadway Theatre Foyer is located in Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine.
