Jaye Richardson, from Endeavour Hills, faced an out-of-session court hearing in Morwell late on Thursday evening after a police pursuit which started in Dandenong and continued for almost 280km.

Mr Richardson was arrested in Swan Reach in East Gippsland at about 2.35pm on Thursday.

A 17-year-old girl from Hampton Park was also charged with five counts of armed robbery and was remanded to appear in a children's court at a later date.

Mr Richardson is believed to have stolen at least four cars during the pursuit after car-jacking his victims at gunpoint.

Police had originally attended a property in Dandenong with an arrest warrant. Mr Richardson is alleged to have then fled to Warragul with the girl, where he stole a car at gunpoint. He then car-jacked a four-wheel-drive at Traralgon, where the girl is alleged to have left the scene.

Mr Richardson then drove on to Bairnsdale where he is believed to have car-jacked another two cars.

He allegedly jumped into the back seat of a Holden Commodore, ordering the driver to continue east towards Lakes Entrance.

Special operations group officers stopped him in Swan Reach, where he was then arrested.

Inquiries are ongoing and a police spokeswoman said detectives expect to place further charges.
