But he bagged special bowling figures in last Saturday’s opening round of the Upper Loddon Cricket Association season against Newbridge.
In his first game back for three years, Last claimed the stunning figures of 8-15 off six overs.
His spell included an extremely rare triple hat-trick - five wickets in five consecutive balls.
Having one stage been 0-114, the introduction of 21-year-old Last into the Kingower attack sparked a dramatic Newbridge collapse as it was bundled out for 137.
Among Last’s eight wickets were the dismissals of Tas Fitzallen (caught, 1), John Bergman (caught, 0), J. Broham (bowled, 0), Pete Bergman (bowled, 1) and Mark Wingrave (bowled, 0) in five consecutive deliveries across his third and fourth overs to take the triple hat-trick.
Overall, Last’s eight wickets included five bowled and three caught.
“It was obviously a great day... I was just surprised to be bowling a hat-trick ball, let alone ending up with a triple hat-trick,” Last said.
“There’s nothing fancy at all with my bowling.
“I wouldn’t say I’m quick or anything... just straight balls that don’t swing.
“Perhaps there might have been a few rusty batsmen at the start of the season that helped me.”
