The husband-wife duo’s return will come this year with three sets at the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival which starts on November.
Hat Fitz and Cara will play three sets during the four-day festival.
“When we play for the Bendigo Blues Club they were just starting at a new venue,” Cara Robinson said.
“We always wanted to come back and it’s so nice to be invited to this festival.
“There are so many hidden gems and laneways in Bendigo. It’s got it’s own thing going on which is cool.
“It’s great that word (about BBRMF) is getting out and it’s getting recognition. We are really looking forward to it.”
Hat Fitz and Cara’s return to Bendigo coincides with the launch of their new album, Do Tell.
The pair are also touring the east coast during November with their Bendigo gigs slotting nicely into their tour schedule.
Do Tell was released on October 3 and is their first album with Planet Records.
“We have been trying a few different avenues and are trying to keep it fresh with our first year with this album,” Cara said.
Cara grew up listening to a lot of soul and Mo Town-based artists while Hat Fitz is an authentic bluesman.
They have been married and playing together for five years.
“You usually get a live show and some interesting domestic moments do come about,” Cara joked.
“But generally it’s very loving and it’s incredible to think I’ve been blessed to be able to play (with Hat Fitz).”
After meeting at a music festival in Ireland six years ago and checking out each other’s acts, Hat Fitz and Cara kept in touch for nine months before beginning their life together.
The experience of playing alongside each other for almost six years means the combination of blues and soul is gelling together more naturally for the duo.
“Early on we followed each other on certain tracks rather than sharing them” Cara said.
“I’ve been very influenced by Fitzy’s blues while a bit of Mo Town has slowly seeped into him.
“I’ve got a background in soul music. When I was 13, I grew up with music in the house. My dad had a huge collection of records with everything from psychedelic to soul.”
The full program for the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival will be launched this Tuesday.
Copies will be available from the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre and participating venues.
