Local members Jacinta Allan and Maree Edwards made the announcement to students, parents and teachers on Tuesday morning.

The $6 million plan will remove the school’s remaining portables and refurbish Block C.

The school's principal Dale Pearce said the plans would ensure the interior of Block C would be more user friendly.

He said the funding would allow the development of new teaching spaces, a casual hang-out space and a teachers' area.

The money will also fund the removal of portables from an area of the school allowing more recreational space to be developed.

"Teens need their space," Mr Pearce said.

"We want to see the best possible (outcome).

"We want it to complement what we already have."

One element of the upgraded Block C would allow the original food technology rooms be replaced with more classrooms and relaxed teaching spaces.

The food technology students will relocate to the updated hospitality area in the theatre precinct.

The school's food technology co-ordinator Sue Maillard said the addition would be an education advantage for her students.

"We are really excited to get them over in the new facility," she said.

She said there were plans to integrate the concept of sustainability into the curriculum.

Ms Allan said Labor would also ensure local companies were given priority to work on the project.

“Labor’s plan will give students the world class facilities they deserve,'' she said.

“Bendigo Senior Secondary is a great school – once we get rid of the portables it can do so much more.”

Ms Edwards said students "could not get a first-rate education in a second-rate classroom".

“Labor’s plan is great for local families and great for local jobs,'' she said.
