About 60 people joined the Walk for Dyslexia around Bendigo’s Lake Weeroona on Sunday, led by federal Bendigo MP Lisa Chesters and state Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards.
They were among hundreds of people to take part in walks across Victoria.
Specific Learning Difficulties Association of Victoria chief executive officer Jason Henham said the event showed dyslexia was very real and impacted Victorians everywhere.
"One in every 10 Australians are affected by learning difficulties,” Mr Henham said.
“We estimate that only 10 per cent of all children with dyslexia are currently diagnosed.
“This means there are students in every Victorian classroom that are not getting the support they need to learn.
Sunday’s walk was the launching event for Dyslexia Empowerment Week, a series of events and actions that aim to inform and educate the community about the issues surrounding dyslexia and learning.
