The free Anti-Poverty Week event at the Bendigo Library will offer struggling people a chance to speak directly with financial counselling teams.
It is an initiative of St Luke’s Anglicare, Haven Home Safe, Bendigo Family, Coliban Water and St Vinnies.
The Department of Justice will also be represented with a Sheriff available to discuss issues surrounding infringement notices, toll payments and warrants.
St Luke’s manager Phil Eddy said the day was a chance to access sound information that was free.
He urged the whole community to take advantage of the information available.
If you have money worries it’s important to realise you are not alone and there are steps you can take to stop it spiralling out of control,” Mr Eddy said.
“And if you’ve signed up for unwanted deals, or contracts you don’t understand … or you are having trouble paying debts, this event will help clarify your situation and work out the best way forward.”
Bendigo Community Health Services will also host an Anti-Poverty Week event at noon.
Staff will be serving samples from its soup kitchen to highlight the service in Hargreaves Mall until 2pm.
Information will also be available for those living on or below the poverty line.
