Seven Victorian businesses and individuals received awards for outstanding work maintaining workplace health and safety.
Safescape's Laddertube system picked up the award for health and safety invention of the year.
The Golden Square based business has gained worldwide recognition since it developed the safety system in 2010.
More than 10,000 metres of the tubing system has been installed in more than 40 mines.
Safescape general manager Allison Deadman said the idea of the system came from Managing Director Steve Durkin posing a question to his staff - is there a better way?
The concept of an enclosed plastic tube with a ladder at the centre, was conceived by Mr Durkin in 2003.
She said he found the existing system of mining escapeway ladders were inflexible in their application.
"It took until early 2009 to find the right manufacturing partner to initiate the project," she said.
The first ladder was installed in Fosterville Goldmine in May, 2010.
She said the advantage of the Laddertube was that it protects people from external hazards and is not impacted by water, salt or other mineral deposits.
"(It delivers) the longest possible lifespan for the escapeway," she said.
Ms Deadman said the business felt it was rewarding to be formally recognised for their work in a public forum.
Marc Bullen from Hardwick's Meat Works in Kyneton took home a highly commended in the return to work coordinator excellence category for a pioneering re-education system.
He used photographs and video to explain the different company roles to ensure returning workers understand each roles' requirements.
Victorian WorkCover Authority Chief Executive Denise Cosgrove said the awards were about recognising the outstanding achievements.
"Their success is a direct result of (their) hard work and commitment," she said.
