The prestigious, four-bedroom house on Fairy Dell Court, served as Mr Granter’s home for nearly 30 years until his death at the age of 91 on May 14, 2012.
He was a Victorian Liberal government minister in the 1970s and 80s and spent 24 years in the Upper House of State Parliament as the Member for Bendigo and later Central Highlands.
He retired from parliament in September 1988.
Mr Granter served on many local boards and organisations, including Heathcote’s hospital, Bendigo Jockey Club, and played a key role in the construction of Lake Eppalock.
Connallys Real Estate principal Patrick Connally said the 2500 square metre property was occupied for a short time after Mr Granter’s death by his wife Helena.
He anticipated plenty of interest in the prestige family home, which includes two lots, three bathrooms, plus a spa bathroom, formal lounge, secure double garage and separate brick garage.
“There could be as many as 30 or 40 people in the court just to see what happens,” Mr Connally said.
“He (Jock) did a lot for this town, particularly when the amalgamations were on and Heathcote was going to go to Seymour (Mitchell Shire).”
Mr Connally said he was encouraged by recent gains in the Heathcote real estate market.
“Over the last 10 weeks it’s picked up substantially – it had been very quiet,” he said.
“Most people who drive through Heathcote come from Echuca and don’t realise what’s available out the back of town.”
The house is within walking distance of the town’s post office and shopping centre.
It will be auctioned at 11am.
