BENDIGONIANS who trot on over to Hargreaves Mall at noon today will get to meet two very special visitors.
Timmy Sheep and his trusted side kick, Leon Trotsky, who also carries the noble title of 2014 Be Kind To Animals Week ambassador, will be at the Bendigo mall for about an hour, until 1pm.
Pam Ahern, founder and director of Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary, said the pair, who were visiting Bendigo as part of Be Kind To Animals Week this week, would be on leads and generally "meeting and greeting and kissing politicians".
She said Timmy and Leon brought with them an important message: kindness begets kindness.
"Many studies show... there's a strong link between people who are kind to animals and kindness to fellow human beings," she said.
"When we show kindness, it sets us on the path to greater compassion."
She said Be Kind to Animals Week was now in its sixth year and Edgar Mission's visit was about providing a fun and enjoyable way to get people to connect with some of the world's most vulnerable creatures.
Ms Ahern said yellow awareness ribbons, featuring an animal footprint and a human footprint, will be handed out to the public "to remind people we are part of the animal kingdom".
