Genna Angove, 23, witnessed the accident, on the Calder Highway, near Edwards Road.
Ms Angove was driving towards Bendigo when a large tree fell on a car about five metres ahead of her, which was heading towards Marong.
Ms Angove said no one was hurt in the incident and damage to the car was limited to its front bumper and lights.
But she said the tree covered the width of the road and could have caused significant damage.
She said nearby residents starting cutting the tree with chainsaws shortly after the accident.
She said traffic heading towards Bendigo was at a standstill for about 20 minutes, until the residents could remove enough of the tree for cars to get through.
