The City of Greater Bendigo will hold a community information forum on Monday night at the leisure centre, earmarked for destruction to make way for the $30 million Kangaroo Flat aquatic centre.
Plans for the new centre will be displayed and explained, as well as an alternative plan put forward by those seeking to have both centres incorporated on the same site.
Mayor Barry Lyons said the meeting is in response to a request from those wanting to save the leisure centre.
"It will be an opportunity for the people that want to keep the old leisure centre to put forward their case," he said.
"Council's plans and the alternative idea will both be put up on the screen and explained.
"We'll also explain why the alternative plan won't fit on the site."
Cr Lyons said he hoped people could "move forward" after the meeting, and any changes to council's plan could impact the $15 million state government contribution.
A group of residents put forward the alternative case earlier this month, which included shifting the aquatic centre to face east, rather than north east.
The plan showed how both the leisure and aquatic centres could exist on the same site, taking away some of the space from the adjacent sports field.
Group member John Walsh said it will be one of the last opportunities to put forward a case to save the leisure centre.
"I challenge councillors to have a genuine look at our plans," he said.
"We're not against the pool being constructed, we're against the plan to get rid of the leisure centre.
"We've been told council has yet to have time to properly digest our plan."
The community forum will begin at 7.30pm on Monday, September 29, at the Kangaroo Flat Leisure Centre.
