DAY ONE: Teachers enjoy themselves at games
DAY ONE: Teachers games kick off in Bendigo
WELL done to the Victorian Teachers Games for injecting plenty of life into Bendigo.
More than 2000 present and retired teachers arrived in the city on Monday for a week of 'activities'.
Judging by the smiles and happiness around the event on registration day, it's going to be a big week of fun and games for all concerned.
Organisers of the games need plenty of praise.
Firstly, for picking our fantastic city to host these games.
But most importantly for introducing the rule that requires all participants in the games to spend at least $350 in the host city.
Multiply that by 2000 visitors and this week should be a nice little earner for the Bendigo economy.
With so many visitors spending the week, this is a tremendous opportunity for the city to showcase all that's good about Bendigo.
It would be great to see these teachers returning with family and friends in the future because they've had such a fantastic time here.

So to all who have gathered for the Victorian Teachers Games, welcome to our city and have a wonderful week.
Thanks for spending time in our great city.
We hope you enjoy the experience.
