Christian David Jones, 37, appeared at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Monday via video link from Bendigo Police Station.
He was charged over an alleged aggravated burglary at a Castlemaine home on Sunday morning, and a violent incident at the same property on Thursday last week.
Police informant Detective Senior Constable Brendan Hicks told the court Jones had been staying with a friend at the home on Thursday when he was asked to leave.
He said Jones grabbed the man by the scruff of his neck and raised his fist as if to hit him.
The Castlemaine man then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and chased the victim into the toilet, stabbing at the door as it slammed in front of him.
Three days later Jones returned to the house with his girlfriend and tried to force his way inside with a steel jemmy bar.
The court heard the victim was not home at the time, but two people inside the house heard Jones threaten to "dissect his face" if he double-crossed him.
Detective Senior Constable Hicks said the pair went to the back of the house and removed a fly wire screen to unlock the laundry door.
After searching the house and realising the man was not there, Jones relaxed and made himself a cup of coffee in the kitchen.
When police arrived, he gave the officers his name but then fled the home.
He was arrested a short time later after police found him hiding in the toilet of the house next door.
On Monday, Magistrate Jennifer Tregent granted an application for police to examine Jones' hand for an injury believed to have occurred during the Thursday incident.
The court heard Jones' alleged offending breached bail conditions imposed on earlier charges which police asked be revoked.
Jones did not oppose the application and was remanded in custody.
The case was adjourned to January.
