IT has been 20 years since Bendigo last produced the Brownlow Medal winner.
That was 1994 when former Golden Square star Greg Williams won his second Brownlow.
Just two days shy of what will be exactly 20 years to the day that Williams won the 1994 Brownlow Medal, Geelong captain Joel Selwood has a chance to emulate the feat of “Diesel”.
Selwood - the former Kennington-Sandhurst junior and Bendigo Pioneer - goes into Monday night’s count as the Brownlow Medal favourite.
Playing for Carlton, Williams polled 30 votes to win the 1994 Brownlow Medal - a count which his parents Brenda and Leigh watched from their Golden Square home.
“It’s just unbelievable... it’s so exciting,” Brenda told the Bendigo Advertiser after her son’s win.
Williams also won the Brownlow Medal in 1986 when playing for Sydney, tying on 17 votes with Hawk Robert DiPierdomenico.
