After ankle and calf injuries restricted him to just five home and away games, Everington starred in the Storm’s 55-point Bendigo Football League grand final win over Sandhurst on Saturday at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
In what was the Storm’s first senior premiership, Everington was awarded the Nalder Medal as the best player on the ground.
Everington was a constant driving force through the midfield for the Storm.
“To get a premiership for this awesome club is just unbelievable,” said Everington, who has played at the Storm for the past two years.
Everington suffered an ankle injury in a pre-season practice match against Rochester.
He returned in round 11 against Eaglehawk, played four games, then suffered a calf injury that sidelined him for another three games.
“It was a really tough mental challenge to get my body right, but there’s such great staff around the club and they got me in to see the right people with my rehab,” Everington said.
“It was a bit of a surprise getting the medal today.
“There was a wide spread of blokes who could have got it, but I’m happy to take it.”
