Hundreds of Storm fans roared as one as the final siren sounded in Saturday’s premiership decider at the QEO, putting the seal on an authoritative 55 point win against Sandhurst.
About 25 minutes earlier plenty of them invaded the ground to celebrate one of their heroes, former St Kilda AFL star Stephen Milne, kicking his 100th goal for the season.
Supporter Nathan Stewart said he was ecstatic with the win.
“Go Storm,” he said just moments before the final siren.
“We’ve only lost the one game all year, so to finish it todayoff is great.
“It’s great for everyone involved, the players, coaches, the supporters and the community.”
The jubilation among Storm supporters was a far cry from the disappointment felt after last year’s heartbreaking loss.
The club gets a lot of support from the community, but it also puts back
- Paul Kane
Elated Storm committee member Paul Kane said the support afforded the club from the community had been amazing since day one.
“The club gets a lot of support from the community, but it also puts back into the community, he said.
“The guys have been doing a lot of community work with the schools out there, as well this year we have also done a power of charity work.
“We had one of our under 18s diagnosed with cancer six weeks prior to the end of the season and we have raised a massive amount of money for him.
“They’re the things no one really knows about, but make you proud to be associated with the Storm.”
Premiership midfielder Shaun Everington said it was wonderful to repay the supporters’ faith and loyality.
“The crowd today were unbelievable, you could hear them chanting and that got us up and about a bit,” Everington said.
“Just even walking around the club, it’s an unbelievable feeling. Everyone knows your name and is friendly.
“I’m from Melbourne, but coming up here you are a part of the community.”
