He is a volunteer radio announcer at KL FM radio station in Bendigo.
Mr Tobin runs the station's program every week day from 9am to midday, playing music from the 60s and 70s.
He covers sport news and finds interesting facts about the singers from of the songs he plays.
Mr Tobin was president of the Community Broadcast Association of Victoria for seven years and is still a contributing member.
The association looks after community radio stations across the state, provides radio workshops and supports Australian singers.
He is also an active member of the Bendigo Amateur Radio and Electronics Club.
Mr Tobin volunteers his expertise in radio because he likes to share his vast knowledge from his professional career.
"I’ve been lucky enough to have some great jobs throughout my lifetime," Mr Tobin said.
He worked for NASA during the Apollo missions and tracked the astronauts via radio from Canberra.
He spoke with all the American astronauts of the era, including Neil Armstrong.
