It's fantastic to see politicians across Australia starting to not only debate the issue but throw their support behind the call to legalise medical marijuana.
It seems commonsense is winning the battle.
Mia Mia mother Cheri O'Connell has applauded Prime Minister Tony Abbott for this week endorsing a proposal to legalise the drug for medical purposes.
It's nice to see our top politician taking such a stance.
This week we have also seen New South Wales moving to the verge of legalising medical marijuana and Victoria introducing legislation to remove barriers to clinical trials.
It's clear the groundswell of support for medical marijuana is becoming strong and those who have waged a long campaign must be growing in confidence that the outcome they once only dared to dream about is looming as a serious possibility.
We shouldn't forget that every day the decision to legalise medical marijuana is delayed, that's another day people in dire need must struggle through.
Time is of the essence.
