Sam applied for three La Trobe University courses as part of the first year of the institution's Aspire program.
Under the new scheme, the university offers places to students before they finish school.
The university judges students on predicted academic results provided by the school and on their community work and leadership ability.
Sam is a senior prefect, has coached hockey and led a school camp.
He was offered all three courses he applied for at La Trobe University: sports development and management, exercise science and paramedicine.
He said it was a "different feeling" knowing that he already had a place at university.
But he said he was still motivated to do his best in his studies.
"It's nice to know there's a spot there," he said.
