Bendigo's Sergeant Mick McCrann said the public alerted police to a vehicle parked the wrong way on the Loddon Valley Highway at Campbell's Forest, about 20 kilometres north-west of Bendigo at 3am on Wednesday.
He said police searched the vehicle and found 10 grams of cannabis and a small quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamines.
Sergeant McCrann said the 28-year-old was arrested and taken to Bendigo Police Station for questioning.
He said the man was released on summons and would appear at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court in November.
"Police want to thank the public who rang in and alerted us to the vehicle facing the wrong way," Sergeant McCrann said.
"Police will continue to target motorists who drive with drugs and alcohol in their system."
