Haig, who has been riding with the Australian Institute of Sport team across Europe for the past several months, was selected in the under-23 men's category.
He will be racing with fellow top riders Alexander Clements, Caleb Ewan, Campbell Flakemore, Robert Power and Samuel Spokes.
The cycling young gun will compete against the best riders from across the globe in the under-23 road race and individual time trial.
Teams from Great Britain, Germany, the United States and Spain are set to compete.
Last month Haig raced in the Tour de L'Avenir which is also known as the under-23 Nations Cup in France.
He finished 12th spot in the general classification, finishing nine minutes and 47 seconds behind Colombian winner Miguel Angel Lopez.
His best result for the 899 kilometre race was a seventh place finish on the sixth stage.
The Australian team also jumped from 19th to 9th in the overall Nation's Cup rankings.
Selection in the Australian team has capped off an impressive year for the rider, who won the young rider classification in the Tour Down Under, Herald Sun Tour and Tour of Alsace in France.
Castlemaine's Zak Dempster was also in contention for the road race.
The Tour de France cyclist was selected in the initial elite men's division but did not make Monday's final cut.
The 2014 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Ponferrada, Spain, between September 21 and 28.
The prestigious world road cycling championships will consist of 12 events in the elite, under-23 and junior categories..
