Gisborne coach Rod Sharp said speculation Summerfield had strained his hamstring at the first bounce of the final quarter of last Sunday’s loss to Sandhurst was wrong.
He said Summerfield suffered a corked thigh and was a ”50-50” chance to play against Golden Square.
“Hopefully, we see some improvement in him at training tonight,’’ Sharp said of Summerfield.
“With corkies, the first 48 hours are all about icing them and compression.
“Hopefully, he can stretch and get some movement into it tonight.
“Our physio said he is 50-50, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Michelsen Medal winner Scott Walsh is also rated a 50-50 chance to play on Sunday.
“He played against Kangaroo Flat in the last round and played well, but he pulled up sore in the knee,’’ Sharp said.
“He’ll be right to play the week after, but we’re not sure if he’ll be right for this week.
“We’ve got to weigh up what’s best for Scott and the team.”
Young gun Riley Patterson has been cleared to play this week.
Patterson suffered a minor corked thigh last week.
Veteran defender Anthony Belcher is an unlikely starter because of injury.
Gisborne will regain ruckman Tom Waters from suspension.
The injury news gets better for Golden Square each day.
Jack Geary and Simon Rosa have been cleared to play after suffering concussion in last Saturday’s win over Eaglehawk.
Forward Hamish Morcom also looks set to resume from a shoulder injury.
It’s been four week since Morcom injured his shoulder in Golden Square’s loss to Maryborough.
“Hamish is on track to play,’’ Golden Square coach Nick Carter said.
“He’s just got to get through training this week.”
The Gisborne versus Golden Square will be played on Sunday at 2.20pm.
