Victoria Tourism Week, presented by VTIC and Destination Melbourne, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the social and economic contribution tourism makes to Victoria and the need to progress initiatives that support further industry growth.
With the appropriate policy, the tourism industry could create nearly 9000 additional jobs for Victoria over the next two years, as tourism brings in visitors who spend money, which creates jobs and sustains communities.
As VTIC has consistently stated, Bendigo is well positioned to benefit from this because of the array of culinary, historical, cultural and natural attractions on offer.
VTIC recommendations include:
Increase marketing efforts to attract more Asian visitors: targeted communications campaigns and funding to make Victoria’s key tourist attractions more appealing to this group are needed.
Grow intrastate tourism: investment in local council and regional tourism programs is needed to arrest the $7.1 billion annual holiday trade deficit by getting more Victorians holidaying in their home state.
Commit $2 million annually to grow the medium-sized event sector throughout regional Victoria.
Support business to increase its online presence: maximising the business opportunities in the digital environment.
Get business online: support business to maximise the opportunities in the digital environment.
VTIC calls on policy makers to adopt our recommendations for the good of the Bendigo community.
