Unchartered is a collection of more than 50 works by the self-taught Eaglehawk painter featuring a series of watercolours and oil paintings.

Singe said the pieces were selected as representative of his 20-year art career.

"I called it Unchartered because there's no plan in the world, and so there's no plan in my art," Singe, 55, said.

"A lot of my work isn't traditional because I paint form my mind. I'm not spiritual, but it's my spirit on the canvas.

"You're buying a piece of me."

Singe said the works featured a range of subjects including landscapes, outback scenes and some inspired by modern art, as well as Chinese themes drawn from his heritage.

"It's vibrant, it's powerful and it's colourful," Singe said of the exhibition pieces.

"They're not soft and neat and tidy; they're in your face."

This is the first time Singe had exhibited works in his home town, and he's excited to be supporting the Eaglehawk Community House.

"It's my first opportunity to show the world my work," he said.

"I've hoarded this art for years and it's only about a quarter of what I've got.

"The exhibition is about me giving back to my community. I'm a volunteer there so it's a great space to show my art."

Unchartered is on at Eaglehawk Community House, Cnr Bright and Reserve Streets, Eaglehawk, on August 29 from 6pm to 8pm and on August 30-31 from 10am to 3pm.
