I AGREE with the comments made by George Flack in Web Words on August 22 regarding the provision by the council of sporting facilities for our youth to participate in activities that improve their healthy lifestyle.

I have a granddaughter involved in netball on Saturday mornings at the Bendigo South-East College netball facility.
Their club has some 160 young girls between 11 and 17 years involved in netball, but is not affiliated with a school or football/netball association.
For some time, talks have been ongoing with the council to provide in the short-term a storage for these players at the facility. So far no decision has been made.
This club is providing young girls sporting competition as a great way to a healthy lifestyle, yet they are missing out because they have no bargaining power such as schools and/or football/netball associations.
Why can’t the Bendigo South-East College provide some storage in the short-term for these girls, as it is receiving public funds from taxpayers for these facilities?
The club could then negotiate with the council for a permanent solution to their problem.
I believe there are planned talks to be held at the end of the month.
Council is great at providing for big-picture items when allocating sports finance or facility provisions .
It is time to look after the little people as well.
