Cr Lyons was nominated to take the ice bucket challenge and nominated the city's chief executive Craig Niemann to do so with him.
They were joined by councillor Mark Weragoda.
After completing the challenge, Mr Niemann nominated Bendigo Advertiser editor Rod Case and Bendigo Weekly editor Anthony Radford. Cr Weragoda nominated Doug Lougoon and Alan Spalding.
The ice bucket challenge raises awareness for motor neurone disease.
Cr Lyons was nominated to take part in the challenge by Bendigo Bank Victoria state manager Vicki Pearce.
Several prominent Bendigo leaders have taken part in the challenge, including Catholic College Bendigo principal Michael Chalkley and Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters.
The challenge originated in the US but has been embraced across the world.
