MY NAME is Simone Boykett and I am the data support officer in Renal Services at Bendigo Health.
I joined Bendigo Health in this role nearly two years ago now.
The majority of my career has been within the insurance industry, predominately with Bendigo Bank.
However heading to “mid-life” saw me seeking a career change.
Working in the dialysis unit has opened my eyes not only to the wonderful work of Bendigo Health as a whole, but to the care and support that is offered to our patients within Renal Services.
Little did I realise that dialysis is in fact a life-saving therapy; without it many of our patients would not be here.
Thankfully, Renal Dialysis is the recipient for funds raised at this year’s Bendigo Bank Fun Run, which will help this wonderful work to continue.
As for the exercise part of the Fun Run, well when I told my family that I was entering the five kilometre run, the word “impossible” was used.
Little did they know I had the full support of Fusion Physiotherapy and our local Bendigo Health dietitian Michael Coldrey to get me through this phase.
Exercise in the past few years for me has not been a common word. In a nutshell I will be going from “Couch to 5km” within this 10 week period.
But what better incentive than to have this challenge set which will not only see my health and fitness improve, but will help Renal Services at Bendigo Health to continue in its growth and care for those living with kidney disease.
For me, that’s all I needed to get me to the start line.
The finish line is another story, but we will see how it goes......
