AFTER splitting their home and away meetings 1-1, Pyramid Hill and Bears Lagoon-Serpentine lock horns in Saturday’s Loddon Valley Football League qualifying final at YCW’s Backhaus Oval.
Apart from losing back-to-back games in rounds seven and eight, and later in rounds 15 and 16, the Bulldogs - who are playing in their fifth-straight qualifying final - have had a consistent season, finishing second on the ladder with a 12-4 record.
Bears Lagoon-Serpentine - aiming to go one better than last year’s runners-up - has continued to build as the season has progressed.
The Bears started the season 0-2, but have since won 11 of their past 14 games to finish in third position.
Four-time reigning premier Bridgewater awaits the winner in the second semi-final next week.
COACHES COMMENTS:
Paul Grayling (Pyramid Hill) - “We’ll basically have as full a list as we can to pick from, so there will be a few selection dilemmas.
“We’ll go in confident. Come finals, your home and away form doesn’t count for much... it’s all about being the in-form team come this time of the year and that’s what we’ve been working on.
“It’s all about upping the ante and producing the goods when it counts, so that’s the mentality we’ll take in this week.
“It’s going to be a belter of a game. We’ll aim to win as many contests as we can and hopefully, we can come out on top.”
Damien Featherby (BL-Serpentine) - “Finals are obviously a whole new ball game and we’re looking forward to the challenge.
“We still won’t have a full side, which we haven’t had all year, but we are confident we’ll still field a reasonable enough side on Saturday.”
