Since 2001: LBU 22; Mount Pleasant 9.
Last final: 2008 elimination final: LBU 13.17 (95) d Mount Pleasant 7.8 (50).
This season's meetings:
Round 6: LBU 16.19 (115) d Mount Pleasant 7.10 (52).
Round 15: LBU 14.16 (100) d Mount Pleasant 14.10 (94).
LOCKINGTON-Bamawm United is in the unusual position of fighting for its season ahead of Sunday’s Heathcote District Football League first semi-final against Mount Pleasant at Gunbower.
The Cats have won the past three flags - all of which they took the direct route from the second semi-final into the grand final.
But after squandering a four-goal lead in the dying minutes against Leitchville-Gunbower in last week’s qualifying final and losing in extra time by six points, it’s now cut-throat for the Cats.
Mount Pleasant - which hasn’t beaten LBU since 2007 - was too strong for White Hills by 16 points in last Sunday’s elimination final, led by eight goals from star forward Matt Gretgrix.
Just one goal separated the Cats and the Blues in their last meeting in round 15.
COACHES COMMENTS:
Adrian Dohnt (LBU) - “The boys were disappointed after last week, but we can’t change that result and our focus has been on having a good week on the track and getting that positive attitude back.
“We’ve been fortunate enough over the past few years that we’ve been able to get that finals experience and we’re really going to need the boys to use it this weekend.
“Hopefully, we’ll get Leigh Deledio, John Halloran and myself back this week, which will add in a bit more experience.”
Derrick Filo (Mount Pleasant) - “Lockington is obviously a quality team... they have won the past three flags, so that tells you how good they are.
“But we’ll go in relatively confident and we think we’re starting to play some decent footy. We know it won’t be an easy game, but you’ve got to back yourself in.
“Through the midfield we’ll have to make sure we keep the pressure on so we don’t allow their forwards good delivery.”
