Mrs Roberts first joined in the mid-1960s at the invitation of an older friend.
She has never forgotten how welcoming the ladies were when she attended the first meeting.
“I still remember those beautiful ladies more senior than myself and how they welcomed me into their fold, and I suppose I’ll always remember them,” Mrs Roberts said.
Since then Mrs Roberts has held the position of president on and off. This time around, she has had the role for about five years.
She said it was easier to raise money in the 1970s.
"As life’s gone on and regulations have come in, it's become harder and then a lot of people go to work and then you lose your support," Mrs Roberts said.
She said she hoped the Kennington Red Cross could continue its fundraising work for many years to come but said it depended on membership numbers.
"If the unit wants to go on it has to get new members and they have probably got to be much younger than me," Mrs Roberts said.
