Ms Harper started volunteering because she was wanted to do "something different".
She and her friend started working at the former Vision Australia day room, where they would read, lead crockery-making classes and have a chat to the clients.
"I used to to read the newspaper and buy books with beautiful versus in them to make the customers happy," Ms Harper explains.
These days, Ms Harper volunteers on the shop floor in Wills Street.
She may be 79 years of age, but Ms Harper loves to keep busy and hasn't lost her passion for helping others.
"The customers are very friendly and we help them as much as we can," she says.
"It's nice meeting new people and the girls are lovely to work with."
Ms Harper's role involves sorting and pricing all donations and serving customers.
She volunteers every Friday for four hours.
Ms Harper gets satisfaction knowing the money raised from the shop helps provide vital services to the vision impaired, such as seeing-eye dogs.
