Lancefield Police announced a search operation on Wednesday morning and located a body - believed to be the 64-year-old - in Louise Lane at about 1.30pm.
The body is yet to be formally identified but the search for Mr Hedger has been called off.
Leading Senior Constable Roger Barr said the death was not suspicious.
Mr Hedger was a resident of a care facility in Main Road, Lancefield.
Police issued a statement on Tuesday asking for the public to assist with knowledge of Mr Hedger's whereabouts.
Police were concerned about the man's welfare because of his frail health and the cold weather.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 7.35am: Police are asking Lancefield residents to help find 64-year-old Wayne Hedger by checking any out-buildings on their property or any nearby derelict cars.
Police hold grave concerns for Mr Hedger who has not been seen since he went missing from a care facility in Main Road, Lancefield early on Monday morning.
Mr Hedger walks with the assistance of a dark blue frame with a basket and suffers from multiple medical conditions and requires urgent medication.
Mr Hedger is Caucasian, approximately 160 cm tall, with a solid build, and balding grey hair.
He was last wearing black tracksuit pants, a grey jacket, a grey and white beanie and black leather velcro shoes.
Macedon Ranges Local Area Commander Inspector Ryan Irwin said that police were concerned about Mr Hedger's welfare because of his frail health and the cold weather during the past two mornings.
“Wayne could have taken shelter anywhere, so we are asking people to check any sheds or out-buildings on their property” he said.
“The cold weather and the lack of medical attention are major concerns for us”.
Police have released an image of Wayne in the hope that someone may recognise him.
Anyone who sees Wayne is urged to call triple zero immediately.

Mr Hedger is a resident of a care facility in Main Road, Lancefield and was last seen by a resident walking past her room between 2 and 3am on Tuesday morning.
Mr Hedger is Caucasian, approximately 137 centimetres tall, with a solid build and balding grey hair.
He was last wearing black tracksuit pants, a grey jacket, a grey and white beanie and black leather velcro shoes.
Mr Hedger walks with the assistance of a dark blue frame with a basket.
He has a wallet but with very little cash in it.
Police have serious concerns for Mr Hedger's welfare as he suffers from multiple medical conditions and requires urgent medication.
