Coliban Water will commence a controlled release of water to McIvor Creek to prevent a lagoon overflow at the Heathcote Water Reclamation Plant.

Chief Operating Officer Neville Pearce said the treatment lagoons were at capacity and the release was necessary to protect lagoon embankments.
“Due to high stormwater inflows and storage constraints at the site, the controlled release to McIvor Creek is necessary to protect the integrity of the lagoon embankments at the plant," Mr Pearce said.
He said Coliban Water was permitted, under the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria licence, to discharge treated water to the creek in wet weather conditions. Up to 1.5 megalitres of reclaimed water will be released per day from the plant to McIvor Creek.
“The EPA has been notified on the controlled release, in addition to our licence. We will continue to monitor water quality and conduct visual inspections along the creek for the duration of the release,” Mr Pearce said.
