The Bloods travel to Beck Legal Oval on Saturday to take on Kangaroo Flat, with last week’s meagre QEO scoreline of 1.7 (13) against the Bulldogs still stinging.
“We’ve spoken this week at training that kicking one goal in four quarters of footy is not what we’re about as a club and as a playing group,” Bloods co-coach Peter Tyack said on Friday.
“There were parts of the game where we were competitive and had a lot of the play, but just didn’t get the score on the board, which isn’t good enough for senior Bendigo league footy.
“You’ve got to make the most of your opportunities and the playing group is certainly keen to get out on the park tomorrow and turn it around from last week.”
A bumper crowd is expected for the clash as the Roos’ celebrate their 150th anniversary.
“There’s no doubt days like this Saturday where clubs get a lot of past players and officials back can get the players pumped up to perform well,” Tyack said.
“But we haven’t spoken about what’s happening at Kangaroo Flat this week.
“All we’ve focused on is our game and what we need to do to rebound from last weekend.
“We’ve played some good football at times over the past month, but we need to be able to sustain it for four quarters.
“We just want to get out there Saturday and be competitive at every contest.”
Meanwhile, Golden Square coach Nick Carter has been around Bendigo football long enough to know that a win at Maryborough’s Princes Park can never be taken for granted.
The Magpies were belted by Strathfieldsaye by 141 points at Tannery Lane last week, but Carter expects a much stronger showing from Maryborough on its home ground on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
“Every time you go to Maryborough there’s a challenge on your hands,” Carter said.
“They play their ground extremely well and make you earn every contest, so that’s what we’ll be expecting from them on Saturday.”
