Bendigo war heroes honoured

FOR the past few years, historian Murray Poustie has been diligently researching and compiling books detailing the plight of Bendigo's World War I heroes. The First Contingent records the sacrifice of infantry officers, light horse officers and doctors who left Bendigo to serve in the week ending August 24, 1914.

A second book lists the names of 2972 Bendigo people who served in the Great War, obtained from Pall Mall's Roll of Honour.

The former publication includes information about the road to war, articles published in the Bendigo Advertiser at the time and profiles of Bendigo officers. People can view or purchase the books at the Bendigo soldiers memorial.
