Last time: Round 7, 2014: YCW 23.17 (155) d Inglewood 5.7 (37).
Since 1995: YCW 31; Inglewood 8.
INGLEWOOD - had the bye last round, giving the Blues two weeks to focus in on this home clash with YCW.
Hard to mount a case as to why the Blues can win considering their three losses before the bye were margins of 121, 174 and 143 points.
Jayden Sheean and Sam Williams have battled hard against the odds all season.
YCW - finally, the Eagles got that top-five scalp they had been craving all season when they upset Newbridge by a point last week.
Since their preliminary final season of 2011, the Eagles haven’t strung together two wins in a row.
That should change on Saturday, but consistency hasn’t been a strong point this year.
BRIDGEWATER v PYRAMID HILL - 2.15pm Saturday at Bridgewater.
Last time: Round 7, 2014: Bridgewater 20.17 (137) d Pyramid Hill 8.5 (53).
Since 1995: Bridgewater 25; Pyramid Hill 21.
BRIDGEWATER - every time the Mean Machine have faced a so-called challenger, they’ve stepped up to brush them aside.
Case in point last time against Pyramid Hill when their winning margin was 84 points.
No signs at all this year of the Mean Machine taking their foot off the pedal as they eye the LVFL’s first undefeated season since Calivil United in 2005.
PYRAMID HILL - suffered their third loss of the season last week when beaten by BL-Serpentine by 47 points.
The Bulldogs are still second on the ladder, but their buffer inside the top three has now closed to one game ahead of a pair of matches against Bridgewater and Newbridge - two sides they lost to earlier in the year.
NEWBRIDGE v MITIAMO - 2.15pm Saturday at Newbridge.
Last time: Round 7, 2014: Newbridge 22.12 (144) d Mitiamo 13.9 (87).
Since 1995: Newbridge 23; Mitiamo 17.
NEWBRIDGE - the Maroons look to have coughed up their top-three hopes with last week’s one-point loss to YCW.
The Maroons are playing like a shadow of the team that won six of their first seven games.
They’ve since lost four of their past six games, with coach Matt Dillon saying after last week’s loss his side desperately needs to re-find some confidence.
MITIAMO - coming off a 97-point loss to Bridgewater last week.
But before that the Superoos had been good enough to push the finals-bound Marong and BL-Serpentine deep into the final quarter.
The Superoos have shown all season they are capable of taking a top-five scalp, and with Newbridge low on confidence, this could be it.
BL-SERPENTINE v MARONG - 2.15pm Saturday at Serpentine.
Last time: Round 7, 2014: BL-Serpentine 13.13 (91) d Marong 13.10 (88).
Since 1995: BL-Serpentine 25; Marong 15.
BL-SERPENTINE - right now is shaping as the “best of the rest” behind Bridgewater.
The Bears have strung together five wins in a row, with last week’s 47-point victory over Pyramid Hill keeping them a game clear in third position.
It wouldn’t be quite a mathematically done deal yet, but a win on Saturday would all but sew up a double chance.
MARONG - crunch game for their top three aspirations.
They’re a game outside the top three, with one of the double chance spots they’re eyeing off that of the Bears.
Win on Saturday and they could be just percentage off second position and they keep their double chance destiny in their own hands and control of their season.
