Crews were called to a home in Gundry Street about 4am where a small shed at the back of a house had caught alight.
Acting Sergeant Wayne Rowe said the residents woke up to their shed on fire, called triple zero and started trying to put the fire out.
After the Country Fire Authority and police arrived the fire was quickly put out.
The inside of the shed was damaged.
Acting Sergeant Rowe said it was still unknown how the fire started, but investigations were ongoing.
"It appears suspicious," he said. "If anyone nearby saw any suspicious activity in the area, contact Bendigo police on 5448 1300."
