The blame for this attack sits with them.
It was interesting to see the social media comments against this story as soon as it appeared on the Bendigo Advertiser Facebook page on Tuesday.
The clear division that arises each time a dog attack such as this occurs played out - those against vicious dogs and those who want to blame the victim who must have provoked the animal.
This isn't a debate about whether rottweillers are a dangerous dog or not.
The question here is how does such a large dog with an obvious violent streak get to attack someone on a Bendigo street?
Right there is where the owner's responsibility comes into play.
Many people are nervous of large dogs regardless of whether they are dangerous or not.
All large dogs must be secured for the sake of the community and the owners.
This incident sends a clear message to all owners of such responsibility and the very real consequences for failing to secure animals appropriately.
