Driesen achieved a season-best mark of 69.63 metres in Monday's qualifying round.
Best in Driesen's round were England's Nicholas Miller 72.76, and Alex Smith 72.34.
A four-time national hammer throw champion, Driesen is based in Canberra.
He is a multiple winner of Athletics Bendigo's Athlete of the Year.
This is Driesen's second Commonwealth Games campaign. He competed at Delhi in 2010.
