Fresh from his gold medal ride in the team pursuit, O'Shea was one of the favourites for the points score.
The race was dominated by New Zealand's Tom Scully, who collected 93 points to win the gold medal.
Jack Bobridge was the best of the Aussies in sixth place with 42 points.
O'Shea was one place behind with 30 points.
O'Shea is expected to ride in the 20km scratch race in tonight's final session of track cycling.
