The Roos have got themselves back up into the top-five on the back of their 7-6 record.
But the past three of their seven wins have been by a combined five points, against Eaglehawk last week (two), Castlemaine (two) and Gisborne (one).
“I’ve obviously been very pleased we’ve been able to get those results in tight games. We haven’t had a lot of close games over the past few years,” Roos coach Jason Stevens said on Friday.
“We lost a couple of close games earlier in the year against Golden Square and Kyneton, but the fact we’ve been able to win our last three tight ones and compete to the final siren has been really pleasing for the club.”
The Roos are going to have to be at their best on Saturday if they are to challenge top-of-the-ladder Sandhurst at Beck Legal Oval.
Last time they met in round five the Roos were comprehensively outplayed by the Dragons, kicking just four goals in a 107-point loss.
“It will be different set-up this week at Dower Park, which is a tight ground compared to last time against them at the QEO,” Stevens said.
“Sandhurst opened us up sideways on the big ground and dominated possession early, but we believe we’ve got better as the year has progressed. We’ve got to make sure we use the ball smartly and we win enough of the footy to be competitive on Saturday.”
The Sandhurst side includes veteran Kieran Nihill for his first senior game of the season.
Saturday’s game starts at 2.20pm.
